The Place and Importance of Metrology and Standardization in Industry and Technology
Metrology and standardization services are one of the most crucial services in industrial sector. The dictionary meaning of metrology is the science of measurement and the term includes all the processes to account for the value of a numerical quantity. Standardization, on the other hand, means making and practicing rules for a specific activity to benefit economically with the help and cooperation of all the interested parties.
Metrology and standardization have an important place in developing and sustaining scientific progress, industrial techniques and relations between countries. The success of our country’s production power in world markets depends on raising our competitive power by using our potential under the best conditions. The infrastructure of this process lies in facts of metrology, standardization, quality and accreditation. Our ministry takes the all necessary steps in the scope of its duties and responsibilities in the area of metrology in terms of healthy production and consumption.
Metrology, standardization and accreditation are not only important for responding social needs in view of fast technological progress but also for adaptation to competitive conditions in international trade. Standardization
Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) is full member of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and it is the sole representative of these organizations in Turkey.
The fundamental purpose of Turkish Standards Institution is to raise the awareness about importance of standards and their role in our lives nationwide and to include all parties to standard preparation studies, particularly industrialists. TSE aims to be more effective in international standard studies by exercising chairmanship in technical committee or undertaking secretariat and participating with more experts.
Smart Grids
Smart grid is a system in which energy can be followed instantly and managed dynamically and shareholders can communicate duplex between themselves and control centre. Furthermore, electricity derived renewable energy resources such as wind, sun, geothermal can be transferred easily to network by smart grid technologies and by the way environment-friendly energy with less carbon footprint is produced. Another advantage of smart gird is that it offers consumers a chance to buy electricity the distribution company that they prefer. Consumers can benefit different energy tariffs, can buy electricity at the time it is cheaper and can sell excess energy that they have produced renewable energy resources in their offices or cars to network at the time it is expensive. Thus, consumer can move on to producer position.
Prepackaged Goods Sector Develops Globally
Our lifestyle and nutrition habits change in a faster way at this moment. From now on, we have adopted a consumption focussed lifestyle with the consciousness that time is so valuable in our everyday routine (work, school, meetings..etc). Naturally, readymade and pre-packaged goods have come into our lives rapidly. When industrial production increase in recent years taken into consideration, the effect of the developments in pre-packaged goods to industrial sector cannot be underestimated. Therefore, pre-packaged goods sector, which contains plastic industry, package and producers, has been experiencing a rapid growth with the developments in product marketing strategies, retail techniques and other technological progress that shapes the changing consumer and marketing perception.
International Congress and Gallery of Smart Grid
(ICSG Istanbul 2013)
Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology hosts ‘International Congress and Gallery of Smart Grid’ at May 9-10, 2013 in Istanbul. This congress has been considered to give support to rational use of rising energy demand, to smart meters politics and strategies and to smart building automation systems. With this organization, our ministry aims to make a contribution to Turkey’s having a more effective, strong and respectable position on global platform in the direction of 2023 Strategic Vision by passing to smart meters system. As a result, this congress would provide an international platform to participants in terms of being together with all the stakeholders, finding answers to their questions, learning latest advances in smart meters, observing case studies and determining investment strategies.
